Calming Your Nervous System

COVID-19 times can be stressful times…

Between the obsessive hand washing, mandatory mask wearing, and food/toilet paper hoarding, we’re surrounded on all sides by potential stressful triggers. So it’s no wonder that many people are experiencing changes in their appetite, their mood, and their sleep.

So, what’s a person to do?

For starters, if you find yourself feeling heightened anxiety and stress, cut yourself some slack.

From an evolutionary standpoint, anxiety has its place. It can help spur us into action, and encourage us to problem solve better and faster. (Some studies have even shown that certain levels of anxiety can cause us to have better empathic accuracy!)

Second, it’s important that you find ways of processing and moving through the anxiety you’re feeling. In the wild, when an animal survives an attack, its natural physiological response is to shake its body to rid itself of stress.

Stress and fear can really rev our bodies up. And – This energy has to have somewhere to go, otherwise you’ll just end up feeling uncomfortably stuck in overdrive.

It stands to reason then, that – like the animals in the wild – you need to find ways of moving your body to ensure you’re properly processing stress.

When it comes to movement and keeping the body healthy and strong, I have a lot of really smart friends who are experts in the field.

Case in point: my good friend, Karen Kelly has a PhD in exercise and metabolic physiology performance. She and I recently had a chat about the role movement and exercise play in helping to calm our nervous systems and relieve stress.

I think you’ll really enjoy the talk and get a lot out of Karen’s deep insights.

April 20, 2020 :: Interview with Dr. Anthony Beck
Something Weird Is Going On…

Ever had a conversation that just leaves you stunned?

I recently had quite the eye-opening chat with my good friend and colleague Dr Anthony G Beck. The topic? Some very head-scratching COVID-19 data points…

On our video call, Dr Beck shared a public data tracker that mines cellphone activity, and can pinpoint user migration. ????

With this “big-brother-ish” tool, we’re able to see how groups of cellphone users move (location-wise) over any given period of time.

Dr Beck highlighted Ft. Lauderdale, FL, an area that was highly populated in early March during spring break.

Remember all the millennials who poo-pooed coronavirus before the nationwide quarantine? Dr Beck was able to track how these spring-breakers traveled in the weeks after spring break.

The public data tracker showed the spring-breakers’ cellphones spreading out across most of the eastern and midwestern states.

What does this mean?

Well, if coronavirus is as commutable as the popular narrative states, this spring-break group migration should have EXPLODED the COVID-19 cases across the US…

But it didn’t… So why not?

For answers to this question and more, watch our recent broadcast above.

Are The Numbers Going Up Or Down?

What we know about COVID-19 is changing rapidly – Often new info comes out every couple of days (and sometimes every couple of hours.)

Because of this dynamic, the narrative is constantly being updated. What this means is that it’s hard to feel certain about exactly what’s going on…

???? Are the number of new cases going up or down?
???? Is the death rate stabilizing or increasing?
???? Are we anywhere near the peak of the graph?

If you’ve been reading my recent emails, you know that I’ve made it my mission to add clarity to the narrative, and speak truth to the actual numbers of this coronavirus pandemic.

In my most recent COVID-19 broadcast, I took a deep dive into important metrics to paint an accurate picture of what’s really going on.

It’s my hope that, by understanding the numbers, you’ll gain some clarity, some hope, and some much needed peace of mind.

With schools, gyms, sports and other forms of social and physical activity on indefinite hold, what’s a person to do?

Should you give up on activity altogether, or should you go full speed into a high intensity, daily home workout routine?

As you know, I’m the sleep guy, but I’m also invested in helping you optimize your overall health – Especially given all that’s going on in the world!

That’s why I recently teamed up with my good friend John Welbourn to discuss exercise in the time of COVID-19.

John, a former NFL player and CEO of Power Athlete, has been feverishly working the last few weeks to help people develop exercise regimens to boost their immune systems.

So before you dust off those old running shoes and try to shave a few seconds off your 5k, I strongly suggest you checkout our interview below to ensure you’re selecting the workout that will best serve you and your immune function.

The Single Determining Factor For Your Survival

I just had a conversation on COVID-19 with my good friend John Welbourn. Some of you know John – He’s a former NFL player, and CEO of Power Athlete which develops all kinds of training programs (at-home and otherwise).

John isn’t your typical jock. He’s a Cal Berkeley graduate, and very well plugged into the progressive health and wellness space.

During our talk, John brought up a recent interview he did with Robb Wolf where the two discussed some new and intriguing coronavirus developments.

The narrative has been that the virus simply attacks the respiratory system, but according to John, we’re now seeing that it’s attacking red blood cells, causing a condition that looks more like hypoxia (when the body or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply at the tissue level.)

This new detail is a bit startling, and certainly throws a wrench into certain respiratory treatment modalities.

Even more important, however, is John’s assertion of what each one of us should be focused on in light of this new info to ensure we stay healthy and safe.

(And, btw, I agree with John 100%)

Is It Safe To Run In Urban Areas?

As you may or may not know, we have every reason to believe that coronavirus is airborne. So what does this mean for running or exercising outside?

In the COVID-19-climate, people who go outside to exercise are sometimes shamed by neighbors and/or the media for engaging in risky behavior.

This brings up an important series questions:

I answer these questions and more in my video.

This is a novel virus, which means this is unlike anything we’ve seen before… At least, that’s the narrative the mainstream media is selling us.

But what happens when we take a look at historical data on viruses (influenza, pneumonia, etc), critical cases, and the deaths that result?

In this eye opening video, I’ll walk you through some very interesting numbers. My goal – To provide you with real facts and figures that can hopefully give you a perspective that is more calm than panic.

Can you go outside? Should we all be wearing masks?

How the coronavirus may or may not travel through the air has become one of the most divisive debates in this pandemic.

At the behest of one of my friends, I’m going to talk offer my perspective on:

.???? Is this virus airborne?
???? If so, what does that even mean?
???? What can we do?
???? What should and shouldn’t do?
