Here’s a little public service announcement about masks…

An article published on pubmed in 2019 compared the effectiveness of surgical masks vs the “creme de la creme” N95 respirator masks in preventing influenza. The study in question was performed on outpatient health care personnel who were all in proximity to the influenza virus.

The findings?

Among all the health care workers, there was no significant difference in the incidence of confirmed influenza.

Translation – Regardless of whether they wore a surgical mask or an N95 mask, there was no change to the health care workers’ viral susceptibility.

Let that one sink in for a moment…

Now, what does this mean? Should you toss out your makeshift mask or handkerchief and ignore the laws? Are we all in danger?

For answers to these questions (and more), check out my recent post on the effectiveness of masks, and what you and your family should do about it.
